Center for Influence and Disinformation Research

Achieving Truth

Truth Seeking as a Method of Accountability

Some see truth as something one discovers, something that cannot be skewed but only uncovered. Others see truth as an invention of mankind that can be distorted and played with. This dichotomy is further exacerbated in this era of mushrooming disinformation and low trust in traditional mediums of information. The contemporary informational spaces are becoming fertile ground for malicious actors who exploit the lack of awareness of the public to evaluate and analyse subversive narratives masking themselves as truth.

Center for Influence and Disinformation Research as part of OFU aims to uphold the objective nature of truth through its tripartite mission to: Expose, Educate and Equip against disinformation and foreign influence. CIDER aims to achieve its mission through its two main branches:

CIDER (WEST)

Based in The Hague, this branch of CIDER aims to be an intelligence, research, and educational focused think tank providing resources to inform and fight disinformation and Informational Warfare by anticipating, understanding, and countering emerging threats. Main areas of focus are deepened research into disinformation operations, education on Information Warfare (IW) using wargames, and to inform stakeholders on disinformation trends via predictive intelligence analysis.

CIDER (EAST)

Based in Berlin, CIDER “EAST” aims to be a journalistic network able to conduct in-depth investigations into disinformation networks and to create an environment for capacity building for civil society particularly in Eastern Europe, Caucasus states, and Central Asia. This is in order to strengthen their ability to expose and counter disinformation and foreign influence.
